Nexeye and Avres join forces to offer training and employment opportunities
Gorinchem, 13 May – Avres, Nexeye, and Da Vinci College have joined forces to launch a unique work-based learning initiative: the Logistics Training Program. This programme offers people who face barriers to employment the opportunity to gain work experience, develop skills and move towards a career in logistics. A pathway that not only creates opportunities for individuals, but also strengthens the regional labour market.
The logistics sector is dealing with a growing shortage of staff. Meanwhile, many people are eager to work but don’t always have easy access to paid employment. The Logistics Training Program brings these needs together. Over six weeks, participants gain practical experience at Nexeye’s distribution centre and receive intensive support from Avres job coaches. Alongside this, they follow a hands-on course and receive a recognised MBO Level 1 diploma.
From integration to a future in logistics
Ashebar Melaeke is the first participant in the programme. After completing his integration and language programme through Avres, he was given the opportunity to gain work experience at Nexeye’s distribution centre. He now works there as an order picker and is training to become an assistant logistics worker. This combination of working and learning is helping him build a sustainable future in the logistics sector.
A local initiative with real impact
The strength of the Logistics Training Program lies in the collaboration. “We combine personal guidance, work experience and training in one approach. That’s what makes this programme both effective and unique to the Gorinchem region,” says Tim Verdier from Avres. Nexeye also sees clear value in the programme. “We invest in people who have potential,” says warehouse manager Bianca van der Kaaij. “It benefits the participants – and it benefits us as a business.”
Room for growth
Each year, around ten participants can join the programme at Nexeye – and there is potential for other employers in the region to take part. “We invite other companies to get involved,” says Aad Dekkers from Avres. “Together we can offer meaningful opportunities to those who deserve them – while helping employers move forward.”
